Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51 million watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB stated this marks the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th position.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game drew 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total US average was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
